Bio and personality
Appearance:
Ayame is a tall, thin, young man. Usually wearing flamboyant clothing, otherwise usually Chinese style is the one he goes for. He has long silver hair and golden eyes. All these attributes are due to the fact that he turns into a small, white snake when it's too cold or when he's hugged by a woman.
Both of his ears are pierced too.
When he's transformed he turns into a white snake with yellow eyes.
Personality:
Ayame... is a lot. A handful. Someone with a huge ego and actually a bigger heart. Though usually he goes with his own pace and ideas, dragging others along. He tends to push his own agenda, and love to tell stories. And lies too.
His skills include sewing and quick embroidering, thus he manages a shop where he is sewing clothes. Mostly feminine clothes for all kind of people. He says he's selling a man's romance with them. He's always big on romance. His ars poetica is also that he likes to create things that otherwise wouldn't exist. To make things with his own hands is actually something he rather enjoys.
Ayame thankfully wasn't harmed by the head of the Sohma family growing up, all thanks to his driven and all too much personality. But this personality also made him put a rift between him and his younger brother Yuki. A rift he didn't think much about until later when Yuki had moved out of the main Sohma house to Shigure's. As Ayame got older, sorting his place out in the world, he also realized that finding connection with Yuki again is something he desperately wished. So he tries his hardest to be there for his younger brother, to make up for all the 'nil' he had put him through when they were younger.
Ayame is a person no one can order around or say no to, to be honest. There's only one person who he listens to: Hatori Sohma. He knows that Hatori is more responsible than him, and even kinder. Ayame apparently always liked that in people, because it's something he lacks himself. That's why the respect he has for Hatori, and thus for Tohru Honda too.
His curse:
The most significant thing about his curse is that he turns into a snake whenever someone from the opposite sex hugs him, or gets too close. He also transforms when he's too sick, too cold, or too hot. The time he spends as a snake is random, varies from minutes to hours.
The other part of the curse is his bond to his god, to the head of the family, in this case Akito Sohma. It gives him a heavy emotional connection to Akito as the snake spirit to its god, and thus unable to refuse him, or go against him in any way.
Bio:
Ayame Sohma is one of the Sohma's who are carrying a spirit of the Chinese zodiac in himself: the snake. That fact itself has earned him a place in the inner family circle, but his personality earned him his freedom. Since from a young age he used that to live his own life, by his own rules.
His mother had seemingly not paid much attention to him, taken that Ayame wasn't someone Akito, the head of the family, was interested in. Ayame could not be used for status and popularity, so his mother had left him alone and that helped him gain as much confidence as it's possible for a person, maybe even more.
His teen years were the time when he was trying to find himself, and when he was fighting for his freedom in his own way. He had grown up with Shigure Sohma and Hatori Shoma, going to the same school with them and thus forming a BFF trio. By this time Hatori was already his keeper. Ayame was popular and a school council president, daring to do things no other president would have done (fireworks and bonfire at the school festival...). However, he was also actively fighting for the students too, protecting them. Or more so, it was more of Hatori, but with Ayame's drive guiding him. During this time, Ayame had paid no attention to his family or his heritage. It meant that he was keeping distance from the Sohmas, and with that, from Yuki, his little brother too. It wasn't intentional, it's just hard to fight for yourself when you're a teenager. Sometimes a troubled little brother would be just too much, or something Ayame had no skills to handle.
After school, Ayame went and opened a clothing shop named 'Ayame' where he would sew clothes for his client in utmost discretion. Taken most of his clientele is male, requesting female clothes from him. Either for their partners, or, for themselves. And Ayame does not judge and serves them. He sells 'a man's romance', as he claims. In this business he had met Mine, a girl who seem to understand him and his passion for sewing.
As Ayame got older and put more distance between himself and the rest of the family besides his best friends, he had decided to try and reconnect with Yuki too. It's a bit of a new experience for him, taken that he had never met with such resistance in his life. Or not one he actually took seriously. He does not try to drag Yuki along, honestly, yet it happens, because Ayame is Ayame. But he is trying to give Yuki the best he could, be his older brother finally and help him out whenever he could. By all means. That's why he visited him when he heard that Akito went to the school Yuki attended to, and also the reason he crashed Yuki's orientation talk with his teacher, knowing that their mother may not be the one Yuki would need there.
Ayame is one of the most neglected by Akito, but that also means that he can be free from the main house and from the burdens of what that means. He is trying to use that freedom, that influence to help others too. He still visits Hatori a lot, and keeps him updated about everything, and also asking updates in return. Basically how Ayame keeps track of what's happening in the family.
Headcanons:
- Ayame pierced his ears to rebel his mother
- Also he did a lot of things to rebel against his mother, due to some high expectations that were placed on him before Yuki's birth
- Connected: he would also be the first to rebel against any kind of authority
- He is pan, and is currently in love with his assistant Mine and his childhood friend Hatori
- But currently he sleeps around
- The reason he's over the top sometimes, because he is dreading to be insignificant, or someone who gets no attention
- He is always touch starved due to a kind of childhood neglect and his curse, due to this he tends to get touchy with people, especially with men as there is no risk that he would transform
- He wishes to help, because he likes to feel needed
- He is also heavily affected by Akito in a way that Akito seems to neglect him due to his hard to handle personality; while Ayame is not actively abused he is neglected by his god which is also a burden he has to carry, only because he has the snake spirit
- He still dreams of Akito and the red string and still cries upon waking due to the snake wishing to be with its god but god is pushing it away
