A sweet meeting

[His newfound little friend was strange, but it didn't stop Ayame to want to know more about the poor soul. It's not like taking care of people is new to him, but ever since his little brother Yuki gave him another chance it's like oil to the fire...

So he may or may not have forced Hisoka to arrange a meeting where Ayame could meet with his colleague, this so called Tsuzuki-kun. Hisoka just talked so much about him, Ayame just had to know if all that's true and if he takes care of Hisoka too. Call it brotherly concern.

Ayame is the one picking the cafe they would meet one afternoon, It's an French style cafe with tasty lattes, teas and cakes on its menu. Lovely place, if one would say.

Now, no matter when Hisoka and Tsuzuki would get there, Ayame would surely be late, because punctuality is not his forte. He also took way longer to choose the present he's currently carrying with himself.

So he arrives late, spotting Hisoka by a table and with him, probably his colleague Ayame heard so much about. Ayame beams and approaches, walking like he's on a stage.]

Hisoka-kun, you must forgive me for being late, I absolutely had to take the time to bring the perfect slices of cakes for this occasion~!

[He turns to Tsuzuki and holds the box out for him. It's a pretty box wrapped in a bow, having the cake shop's golden logo on it.]

I'm delighted to meet you, Tsuzuki-kun, I've heard so much about you from Hisoka-kun~ So I got you a present to commemorate the occasion~ And while I encourage you to taste them all, I'd also advice to share them with Hisoka-kun if he also wishes to have some sweets~!

In no way would Hisoka have agreed to any of this if he thought there might be some way to get Ayame to back off, or if he believed he himself had not been partly responsible by mentioning the two might get along well.

Tsuzuki had of course been more than happy to meet someone, especially someone his smaller partner had bothered to talk to more than once and had even mentioned Tsuzuki to. Plus, a chance to get sweets was a huge positive.

Of course, getting the older Shinigami to not order the house while they waited had been a trick, and with Ayame running late, Hisoka does have to give a little.

Meaning Ayame will arrive to at least two plates cleaned off, a little bit of moping and fussing over wanting a third plate, and Hisoka looking a little bit annoyed as he stirs some tea.

It dissipates when Ayame shows, at least, both Shinigami standing to greet the human; Hisoka with a bow of the head and Tsuzuki with an excited puppy dog look as he moves forward to take the gift.

"Thank you so much! I've heard a lot about you, as well, Ayame. It's a pleasure to meet you finally."

Ayame smiles happily, handing over the box with the cakes.

"Oh, so you've heard about me~? That's wonderful, I'm sure Hisoka-kun had told you many great things about me~ But now we're here to talk in person, and deepen the bond of the three of us~! What a great day, isn't it~?" With that he would sit down, but when a careless waiter walks closer to their table, Ayame immediately addresses them. Even without asking, he would give an order for rose tea and honey for himself, and some biscuits for the three of them.

After that Ayame's attention is back to the other two.

"Well let's sit down and have a great talk, my cuties~ I'm thrilled to know more about you, Tsuzuki-kun! Because I truly wish to know if Hisoka-kun is in good hands~" He finally sits, flipping his hair as he does so and smiles happily at the other two.

Never a dull moment with either Tsuzuki or Ayame, that is for sure, and as Tsuzuki and Hisoka return to their seats once Ayame has taken his, there's no way for the younger Shinigami to hide a small sigh at the situation. He imagines he will be very quiet most of the conversation, which suits him fine, since his older partner can be a bit of a social butterfly.

In fact, he starts pretty quickly, giving Ayame a quizzical look. "Good hands? I assume you mean protected?"

Ayame leans back in his chair and crosses his legs as if he is the one owning the place.

"I meant supporting him and listening to him and just being there for him like a precious friend he obviously needs, Tsuzuki-kun~" He sighs dramatically. "But it's admirable you went with such a strong word~! 'Protected' indeed, Hisoka-kun could use some of it too, taken his special talents and all that! But I'm sure you're already looking out for him, right~?"

From time to time Hisoka wanted to disappear without it being something that would shock humans, or be easily found by Tsuzuki; this was one of those times. Honestly, did Ayame have to act so dramatic? Especially since he knew Tsuzuki could be entirely the same.

Fortunately he doesn't do so now, instead tilting his head a bit. "I've done that since day one, whether he liked it or not."

"You also fought with me over food on day one, moron." Hisoka offers with a huff. "Like a child."

"Oh my!" Ayame smiles wider, but then Hisoka chimes in. It makes Ayame chuckle, eying the two of them. "On the first day, Tsuzuki-kun? My, you two do get along from the beginning, right? So Hisoka-kun was just shy to tell me the details~ I'm terribly relieved, I must say~! What a beautiful connection~!"

Imagine if Ayame were to be told the full story. About confusing Tsuzuki as the vampire killer and aiming a gun at him because of it, followed by the fight just mentioned leading to the young shinigami needing to be carried to bed because he was drunk. That would probably lead to all sorts of interesting commentary.

Instead, one will get Hisoka 101: As Told by Tsuzuki, the amethyst-eyed shinigami either not worried his partner might smack him or just deciding to ignore he's there momentarily in lieu of a good chat.

"I wouldn't really say he's shy. Hisoka's just not good at expressing his feelings." Tsuzuki leans on both his hands as he speaks, elbows quite inappropriately on the table, looking a bit like a teenage girl who is preparing to gossip with her peers. "The fact he even spoke about you, or set up a meeting, is about the best you'll get if you want to know he likes you."

Ayame would indeed dissect that story apart, focusing on the carrying of course. Maybe one day.

This time, he only knows what he hears from Tsuzuki and Hisoka, and so far he's loving it. Having tea with two pretty and very interesting individuals always tops everything he should be doing that day.

And when Tsuzuki mentions that Hisoka might like him, Ayame perks up even more. He just loves to be... liked. His whole presence radiates the shojo bubbles, roses and sparkles right about now.

"Is that so? Is that so Hisoka-kun~?" he turns to the boy in question. "I'm honored to be someone you like, and I will carry this task with honor and bring you love and respect, you don't need to worry~!" If Hisoka was anyone else Ayame would already be smothering him with a hug, but knowing that may hurt him he restraints himself. So instead he just reaches for Tsuzuki, putting his hand on his arm. "And you, Tsuzuki-kun, it's admirable you know him so well! I'm sure you two are really adorable when working together~!"

Oh, Lord. Hisoka can't do much but give Ayame a flat look as he gushes, occasionally giving Tsuzuki a side-eye that indicates he wasn't supposed to say that, despite the fact it honestly was probably somewhat obvious; someone like Hisoka didn't keep talking to you if he wasn't alright around you, barring work situations or people like Muraki.

Honestly, it had probably only been Tsuzuki, Tatsumi, Watari and perhaps Tsubaki who had seen much more than his fussy self, and only because he trusted the three Shinigami and had some link, he wouldn't admit it was a crush to anyone, to the now deceased girl. Someday, perhaps Ayame would get a better view of the boy, but not today.

"I wouldn't say adorable." Tsuzuki responds, raising a hand to rub his chin as if he is thinking seriously. "Typically, our cases end up with me handling the interpersonal aspects and Hisoka..."

"I keep the idiot on the case." The boy finishes, earning that look of 'You got me' from Tsuzuki, before turning green eyes to Ayame. "Tusuzki may look competent, but he gets distracted far too easily when nothing is going on."

"Well, someone has to have fun." And now, Tsuzuki is obviously in 'Big Brother Annoy Little Brother' mode, poking Hisoka gently in the head. "You just pout and act disinterested."

"It's called working, moron."

Ayame just smiles as he listens to the two having a conversation. It amuses him greatly, and he just cannot miss the overly familiar way they both handle each other. The meantime the tea and biscuits he ordered also arrived to their table.

"My my my, you two dazzle me, my cute little angels~!" Ayame sighs dreamily. "But Hisoka-kun, it's true that sometimes you have to have a breather! Work isn't all that there is in life, you know~? Do you have something you like? Because I can see Tsuzuki-kun likes to eat sweets and maybe other fun things too~ Maybe you two can try to do something fun together when you're not working~!"

"I read." Hisoka responds quickly enough, and likely Ayame would understand why, but he continues. "It's something quiet I can do anywhere. Also, I practice archery sometimes."

"He's really good at it." Tsuzuki notes with a proud smile. "Helped our section win the last contest."

"Ooh! And what kind of books do you like~?" Ayame gasps, truly amazed at the new information he has gotten.

He's already having dreamy eyes imagining Hisoka in that get up with a bow and arrow.

"You must look the most handsome in your archery gear, Hisoka-kun, one day you must show me how talented you are~! Maybe I can visit when you practice once~?" Ayame asks happily and finally takes a sip from his tea.

"He's more adorable in his archedry gear than handsome, if you ask the girls." Because obviously, Tsuzuki must note this before his partner can manage to ignore that part of the conversation.

Though he will.

"I read classics. As to archery, we could meet somewhere if you are that interested, but I don't think my usual practice ground would work since it's on work property."

And rarely are live individuals allowed into Ju-Ou-Chou.

"Ah, that's a shame. My family also has a training ground, but outsiders cannot enter," Ayame sighs. "Seems like Tsuzuki-kun has to take a picture of your for me," he adds, looking over at the man, before he would reach for a biscuit. "But my, sounds like Hisoka-kun is indeed popular~!" Ayame grins. "And what do you think, Tsuzuki-kun? Is he really cute or more handsome~?"

"You could rent some place to practice." Tsuzuki offers with a smile. "Or maybe a school archery club would let you use their place in exchange for lessons?"

"Idiot." Hisoka sighs, though neither idea is terrible in the long term, just strange. "And don't you dare answer 'cute,' Tsuzuki."

"Eheh..." Tsuzuki looks at Ayame. "Apparently I have to say handsome."

"My, that's indeed a great idea! I would love to see Hisoka-kun teaching archery to kids, it must be a sight for sore eyes~" Ayame perks up happily.

Then he has to chuckle to himself as Tsuzuki answers.

"This means I truly have to see it myself now, right~? Why, I'm truly so excited now~!" he sighs. "You two are such good friends, and seem to be close too. I'm sure you're also great at what you do, right~?"

"Right? Hisoka and kids would be an interesting combination." Tsuzuki agrees about the teaching with a small grin. "Though I don't think we can convince him. Hm..."

As Tsuzuki seems to contemplate this, Hisoka takes the other question.

"We do well enough. It just depends on the case."

"Oh, we surely can't, Hisoka-kun?" Ayame gasps, looking at the boy. "I'm sure it would do you good too~ Being admired by all those little minds, and become their idols~! You may feel all their admiration and you'd feel good too~!"

Ayame's ready to continue that thought when Hisoka answers his other question. It makes him stop for a moment, his eyes going wider a little.

"What kind of cases you're working on~? Is it something exciting~?" he asks happily.

Kids come with their own issues, unless they are very young. Kazusa wasn't so bad, but she was a strange little girl and they were more focused on Hijiri besides. He still felt a little bad about all of that, even if it wasn't much his fault.

Later cases, though... well, he didn't want to go there.

"We do a lot of missing persons cases." It's a simple explanation, and not a complete lie. "Usually fairly generic stuff."

Ayame blinks a little, then looks at Tsuzuki for confirmation. Because surely, that sounds a bit of a stretch at first. Even dangerous too.

"Oh dear, that sounds serious," he says. "Doing such a complex job at this young age, you two must be magnificent~! The more I know about you the more in awe I am~ Ah, such heroes you must be~!" he sighs dreamily, putting his elbows on the table. "I'm so lucky to get to know you two~! Thank you Hisoka-kun for inviting me~"

Tsuzuki is still considering things, but he does nod as he comes back to the conversation, smiling at Ayame.

"It's only dangerous sometimes. But not usually."

"Good," Ayame nods. "It would be a shame if anything happened to either of you," he pouts. "And you must be busy too, no wonder Hisoka-kun has trouble to relax. But you know you can always call me or come to my shop and we can spend some time together, just like now~ I do know how important it is to go out with friends after all~ Especially if you do such a high stress job!"

Plenty had happened, stuff which would shock, startle and perhaps even diagust Ayame. He'd probably love the one about a possessed Tsuzuki hacking up Hisoka thinking he was someone else entirely.

The offer given is waved away a bit, though, and it seems like the younger Shinigami may say something about not wanting to disturb when the older one kicks in.

"Where is your shop, anyway? What do you do? Something about clothes, right?"

Ayame sees the signs of refusal, but he already has an arsenal of reasons as of why they should hang out more. But then Tsuzuki talks and all that goes to the wind and Ayame has an entirely new focus.

"My shop is actually nearby, that's how I know about this lovely cafe~ I offered them I could design them new uniforms, but they are still reluctant on the matter," he sighs dramatically. "But yes, I have a craft store and I also make clothes for those who has the need for them~ I'm specialized in costumes, but surely, you can ask me anything and I'll do it~ Would you like to see a sample of some of the works I'm the most proud of~?" Without even waiting for an answer Ayame takes his phone and moves closer, because whatever the answer doesn't matter.

With Ayame's own style of dress, Hisoka is not at all surprised the cafe has turned the offer down, even if not in so many words. It seemed a nice cafe which wanted its staff to look professional, and they surely didn't need whatever this guy would come up with; let him design for a cosplay cafe instead.

Thank goodness Hisoka doesn't need to voice this, instead ordering a refill on his tea as Tsuzuki leans forward to see what Ayame has, looking super excited for no real reason. Seriously, the guy stuck to button downs and suit coats mostly, and Hisoka was sure it wasn't just because it was appropriate for work.

Either way, let them go at it. He'll sit here quietly.
